New York Latino International Film Festival kicks off tonight!
I am very excited to be attending the NYLIFF this year, which begins tonight with a screening of SOLO DIOS SABE , which stars sexy Diego Luna of Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN infamy. The festival, which is partly sponsored by HBO (who also sponsor the great Full Frame Documentary Festival along with some wonderful companies such as . . .ahem. . Indiepix!). Some highlights of the festival, which has a stellar line up of films, are: Quincineara (which I blogged about a couple of days ago), the feature film The Virgin of Juarez , which stars Minnie Driver!, as well as a trio of Immigration documentaries, two of whom were directed by friends I met on the festival circuit. These are David Eckenrode’s fine El Inmigrante and Daniel DeVivo’s Crossing Arizona . Don’t see that one here though, see it at next Tuesday’s Woodstock in the City series at Makor . Tickets are available by following that link.
Other films I am looking forward to include Colombian documentary Guerrilla Girl, about a young girl who joins the insurgency group FARC in her war-torn country; Venezuela: Revolution in Progress, about the failed coup against Hugo Chavez, and Autumn’s Eyes, a documentary directed by Indiepix.net friend Paola Mendoza, whose short about Hurricane Katrina, Still Standing, is featured on The Katrina Experience , a collection of documentaries put together by Indiepix.net and the Full Frame Festival.
