There Will Be Blog

Posted by: Guest

So I just saw THERE WILL BE BLOOD, and sure enough, it played really well against its hype. I did say the words,”I was pretty impressed”, and then sort of regret saying them, for fear of being in such overwhelming company – and then take back wanting to take the words back. The film’s good, I really enjoyed watching it. I may be stating the obvious, but I sort of read it as this very American fable of the American dream gone soulless (now that’s not a far cry from reality, is it?). And then there was the whole religious/spiritual angle – which I loved and could really sink my teeth into. Paul Dano was also just so good, and it’s not because I’m so very much into the altar boy look – he actually delivered a healthy performance, not once coming across as a “young actor”. Even the music (THANK GOD Jerry Goldsmith stayed home on this one) was so good – my favorite part being the crescendo leading up to the oil spurt that sounded like crosshatching scissors. So good! I know I’m sounding reticent to give it gushing praise, but no, really, I liked it. Alot!
