Film Fest Free Events!

Friday, February 10th, 2012 by

The ReelAbilities Film Festival has begun, and plans to involve its audience in every aspect of both the locale and the cause by which the festival has found such a following.

The festival boasts a laundry list of events available to festival go-ers (or anyone for that matter, they are FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!) which you can find here. Here is one event that you should definitely check out if you are a growing writer/actor or simply a lover of theater/Shakespeare!

Theather Breaking Through Barriers (TBTB)

The only Off-Broadway theater dedicated to advancing professional actors and writers with disabilities presents a staged reading of William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. TBTB has been hailed by The NY Times as “an extraordinary troupe designed to defy expectations” and by The New York Post as “quite simply one of the most enjoyable companies in the country.” In this reading TBTB spins one of Shakespeare’s most thrilling and controversial plays and reveals the parallel of prejudice based on race, religion and disability in a multicultural society that’s an international trading center. Be it Venice in 1600 or New York City today, it’s a place where cultures clash and conflict ensues.

The venue for this event is The JCC in Manhattan, located at 334 Amsterdam Avenue (Between 75th and 76th). While this event is free, here is also a link to festival ticketing for those wanting to get in on all the ReelAbilities action.
