Orange County indie opens in Middletown

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012 by

According to MidHudsonNews.com, Collar, a full-length independent feature film produced by Willy-Gilly Productions of Goshen will have its world premiere at the Paramount Theater in Middletown on August 4.

Production company president Nan Gill-Wilson and her husband David Patrick Wilson hope the movie will shine a spotlight on what they call “Hollywood on the Hudson!” and pave the way for additional films to be shot in the region.

Collar stars Tom Sizemore, Rebecca De Mornay, Richard Roundtree, Wilson and a handful of local talent.

Wilson said growing the industry locally means jobs and expanded economic development. Orange County Tourism Director Susan Hawvermale said making movies will draw visitors.

“There is no question that George Clooney put the Moodna railroad trestle on the map,” Hawvermale said, noting his movie George Clayton, which included a scene by the iconic structure near Cornwall.

Premiering the moving in Middletown “gives us something to showcase,” said Mayor Joseph DeStefano.

Orange County Chamber of Commerce President John D’Ambrosio praised the idea of movie making in the Hudson Valley and he noted scenes from Collar where shot in his Montgomery office.

This is not the first film to be shot in the Hudson Valley. Among others, scenes from Paul Newman’s movie Nobody’s Fool were shot in Beacon and Newburgh and scenes from the Denzel Washington, Russell Crow movie American Gangster where shot at Stewart Airport.
