The Sony hack: an opportunity to think outside the box
It’s an interesting time at Sony. November’s hacking has, in a complex and challenging way, given the company an opportunity to think outside the box when it comes to how a distributor can release a film. Now that the traditional theatrical rollout for The Interview has been canceled, the opportunity is there for an exploration of a new strategy and perhaps a deviation from the tried and true release model. This would not be caving in to censorship. On the contrary; if appropriately and thoughtfully contextualized, this could be a chance to redefine the terms between the hacked and the hackers. Quite in keeping with the American way, in fact. Something to think about in any case… - JM
