Locarno Film Festival Lineup Announced
The Locarno Film Festival has released it’s 65th edition lineup including American favorites “Compliance,” “Ruby Sparks,” and “Starlet”. The festival which aims at showcasing new aesthetic trends, geographical shifts, and rising young artists will run August 1-11 in Switzerland.
Locarno’s classic open air screening series, the Piazza Grande sidebar, will host some must-see films such as Lesyle Headland’s “Bachelorette” starring Kirsten Dunst, sleeper hit “Magic Mike,” and Pablo Larrain’s Cannes hit “No” with Gael Garcia Bernal.
This year the Concorso internazionale offers 19 feature films, of which 13 are screening as world premieres. Meanwhile The Concorso Cineasti del presente comprises 15 first or second films, almost all of them world premieres. A new section, “Histoire(s) du cinéma” offers a selection of documentaries about film, restored classics and a programme relating to the festival’s tributes and guests. This section has been created to bring together various homages and to complement the measures taken since 2010 to make Locarno a Festival that, in addition to being a showcase for contemporary film, is also an event where tribute is paid to those who have left their mark on film history.
Guests include Charlotte Rampling, Alain Delon, Ornella Muti, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Gianni Morandi, Elio Germano, Valerio Mastandrea, Benoît Jacquot, Sarah Morris, Leos Carax, Claire Denis, Harry Belafonte, Vincent Lindon, Eric Cantona and Rachida Brakni as well as the impressive African delegation that will accompany the Open Doors projects and the retrospective devoted to this enormous continent: filmmakers Idrissa Ouédraogo, Gaston Kaboré, Cheick Oumar Sissoko, Abderrahmane Sissako, Djo Munga.
