Review: “Story of a Closet Monster”

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012 by

Andrew: Story of a Closet Monster by Elliot Lobell is a light-hearted, well-received animated film that screened at the Queens Film Festival (March 01, 2012 – March 04, 2012). Part of a block of films during the opening night of the festival, it developed into a star of the show with its use of tactful pacing, balance in humor, and a general understanding of its audience.

Honest laughter could be heard throughout the crowd with little due to actual dialogue, unless you count monster growls (or attempts at growls). This short is worth every minute that it plays – not too long and not too short, which is rare to find in the general vein of shorts that either rush or avalanche plot. After watching Andrew: Story of a Closet Monster it’s clear that Lobell’s talent in animation and storytelling is worth its weight in gold.
