July 8, 2014 — IndiePix Acquires Domestic DVD and Selected Digital Rights to Acclaimed Indie “Satellite”
The Film, Which Premiered At Tribeca and Launched the Careers of Stephanie Szostak and Karl Geary, Will Have a September DVD & IndiePix Digital Release
New York, NY (July 08, 2014) — IndiePix Films today announced that it has acquired DVD and specific digital rights to SATELLITE, the feature-length narrative from director Jeff Winner. The film, which debuted to acclaim at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, has previously had a limited VOD release through Gravitas Films. IndiePix Films will release SATELLITE to the home entertainment market in September 2014 on both DVD and digital (download/streaming) formats.
The agreement was negotiated by Bob Alexander, Consultant, and Jordan Mattos, Director of Programming at IndiePix Films and Lauren Franklin for Gigantic Pictures. Gravitas Films collaborated in the arrangement for digital presentation on IndiePix sites.
Described by Stephen Holden in his New York Times review as a “romantic fairy tale for grown-ups”, the action centers on the courtship of Ro Mars (Stephanie Szostak) and Kevin Sinks, (Karl Geary) and the film is narrated by a child (not identified until the end) whose innocence in telling the story provides a startling and charming contrast to the on-screen action. Referring to Ms. Szostak’s performance, Holden writes: “Ms. Szostak combines Audrey Tautou’s gamine beauty with the seething inner turbulence of Jeanne Moreau’s Catherine in Jules and Jim”. Since SATELLITE, Szostak has gone on to turns in Dinner for Schmucks, We Bought a Zoo, Iron Man 3 and R.I.P.D., while Geary has gone from Starz’s “Gravity” to Ken Loach’s Jimmy’s Hall.
The film was produced by NYC’s Gigantic Pictures and Satellite, LLC.
