June 7th: The Sheik and I @ Rooftop Films!

Tuesday, June 5th, 2012 by

Rooftop Films presents a lineup going into the summer that’s sure to get you pumped for film and, of course, the fun of the outdoors (oh, how we love combining the outdoors and movies!). Coming up Thursday, June 7 is The Sheik and I, Co-Presented by Rooftop Films & SXSW.

Here’s a little about the film:

The Sheik and I
(Caveh Zahedi | 108 min.)

Caveh Zahedi built a reputation as a naughty provocateur with surreal docu-comedies like A Little Stiff and I Am a Sex Addict, but his latest effort rises above self-interest and takes a stab at instigating change. And he might be facing a fatwah for it. The Sheik and I, a diary film about Zahedi’s messy experience working on commission in the United Arab Emirates, certainly contains a mischievous edge. However, Zahedi has also made an alarming testament to the challenges of sincere expression in societies opposed to its function. It’s a daring work made with reckless abandon — in other words, both irresponsible and necessary. Q&A with Caveh Zahedi following the screening.

The venue for this Rooftop presentation is the lawn of Automotive High School, 50 Bedford Ave. @ North 13th St. Williamsburg, Brooklyn. You can get there easily by taking the L to Bedford Ave. or the G to Nassau Ave. Doors open at 8:00PM followed by live music at 8:30PM and the feature presentation at 9:00PM.

The Sheik and I will be followed by an after-party at Matchless (557 Manhattan Ave. @ Driggs) from 11:30PM-1:00AM so you won’t have to worry about where the party’s at! For more information on tickets head over to the Rooftop webpage.
